Most important is our education, our commitment to learning how we may improve our environment. Oberlin Professor David Orr, the leading spokesperson for integrating the environment and education, writes that, “Much of the change in outlook and perspective called for will not happen in the time available unless schools, colleges, and education get it.” To Professor Orr’s observations I would like to add that communities must take responsibility for the education of everybody of all ages in the community. In fact, education is far too important to leave solely to educators and teachers. The total community must be a school. We need to bring back the apprenticeship system. |
